The Grand Traverse Rural Fire Department provides services to the townships of Blair, Fife Lake, Grant, Green Lake, Long Lake, Mayfield, Paradise, Union, Whitewater. The Rural Department also provides service to the Village of Kingsley and to Springfield Township in Kalkaska County. The division has approximately 150 volunteer fire service personnel working out of six battalions.

Pets Saved in House Fire

Chief Bill Sedlacek

The Rural Fire Chief is William Sedlacek. Chief Sedlacek has been chief of the Rural Division since 2000 and oversees all Rural Division operations, both tactical and administrative.

 

Fire Inspector - Plan Reviewer
Ron Taylor

Inspector Taylor, has been the Fire Inspector for the Rural Fire Department since 2001 and is responsible for code enforcement, fire investigations, and plan review in the Rural jurisdiction. Taylor has been a member of Rural since 1995.

 

Fire Prevention Education Officer

Jim Carroll

Officer Jim Carroll implements fire education programs for specific groups in our community. With the help of Sparky the Fire Dog, Jim Carroll will visit multiple types of public gatherings to educate anyone and everyone on the importance of fire safety. Click here for more information.
