MISSION STATEMENT

The Grand Traverse Rural Fire Prevention Bureau, through education and inspections, strives to safeguard the life and property of the citizens in Grand Traverse County from the hazards of fire, explosion and hazardous materials in new and existing buildings, structures or premises used for habitation, work and recreation.

FIRE INSPECTIONS

The Grand Traverse Rural Fire Prevention Bureau provides a number of inspection services in the Rural area. Mandated by township ordinance, inspections are conducted on all existing commercial and industrial occupancies, including Hotel/Motels. The Michigan State Building Code and Fire Code are adopted by local township ordinances and are enforceable by state law.

PLAN REVIEW

New Process for NEW CONSTRUCTION projects will be changing effective December 2007

The Grand Traverse Rural Fire Department will perform plan reviews and inspections on new construction projects including fire suppression systems and fire alarm systems as an agency of the Grand Traverse County Construction Codes Office except for Fife Lake Township .

FIRE EDUCATION

The Fire Prevention Bureau also serves to educate the citizens in all aspects of fire and life safety
through our Public Education Officer Jim Carroll.
